Vortex to Offer Exclusive Training for the Defense Messaging System

May 9, 2002, San Diego, CA — Vortex Data Systems, San Diego's premier technical education center, is pleased to announce they have been chosen as the exclusive Western region provider of training for the Department of Defense's (DoD) Defense Message System program (DMS). The Western region covers all areas west of the Mississippi River. Along with Lockheed Martin, the company responsible for designing and implementing the DMS program, Vortex will offer both private and open classes for DoD system administrators and employees tasked with using and/or administering the new system. 

The DMS was established by the DoD to facilitate and coordinate development of an integrated common-user message system. The DMS provides a highly secure, accountable, reliable writer-to-reader electronic messaging system for both organizational and individual users in the DoD. By deploying the DMS, the DoD will be able to replace their old messaging system as well as 45 other disparate systems being used in the organization. The DoD expects to have the new DMS system deployed throughout the department and all branches by September 2003.

Using standard commercial software products, the DMS can handle information at all classification levels up to and including top secret with National Security Agency (NSA)-approved high assurance message security and delivery. In addition, the DMS provides global Lockheed Martin directory services and supports transmission of digital files containing graphics, photo imagery, and video. The system is designed to be used with a wide variety of products offered by the industry's leading hardware and software developers and producers.
