May 1, 1998, San Diego, CA — Vortex Data Systems, the leader in authorized technical training in San Diego County, is now accepting applications for its second Novell-sponsored scholarship program, FutureNet 98. This scholarship, valued at $3,000.00 per student, is geared toward high school juniors and seniors who have exceptional computer networking and Internet technology experience. Selected candidates will take Novell networking classes IntranetWare: NetWare 4.11 Administration, Internet Business Strategies and Web Authoring and Publishing. The intense two-week class schedule will be held over the summer and will encompass group study to prepare for the official Certified Novell Administrator (CNA) certification exams. This is the initial step toward becoming a Certified Novell Engineer (CNE), a coveted designation in the computer engineering field.

The rigorous FutureNet 98 application process consists of a written essay, application form, academic recommendation letters, parental consent form, and ends with a written test and an interview with Vortex staff. Candidates will be judged on overall skill and motivation level as well as prior achievements. In addition to Novell, Sylvan Training Center is donating its services by providing Novell test vouchers to be used at Vortex, which is one of Sylvan’s Authorized Prometric Testing Centers.

Deadline to submit entries is Friday, June 5th at 5:00 pm. Vortex is located at 7480 Mission Valley Road in Mission Valley. For more information, call Casey Marchesello at 619/497-6400 x216 or visit their web site at www.vortexdata.com.

"This year we’ve added two Internet classes to the scholarship program since there is such a growing demand for more web-based technology," said Catherine Bristol, Vortex’s Education Manager.

For the past 15 years, Vortex has been dedicated to helping San Diego businesses maintain their edge by uniting people and networking technology. They offer authorized curriculum from Novell and Microsoft, and provide a host site for six of the computer industry’s top user groups. They also serve as a satellite downlink site for educational events provided by Novell, Microsoft, Compaq, Intel, 3 COM and others. FutureNet 98 is one of several training programs focused on youth achievement.
