Local High School Students Complete Best and
Brightest III Microsoft Certification Program at Vortex Data Systems
San Diego, CA July, 27, 1999 – Vortex Data Systems,
Microsoft, Sylvan Prometric, and the 20 high school juniors and seniors
selected to participate in the Best and Brightest III scholarship program
will celebrate the successful completion of the program during graduation
and career day. Family will also join the celebration at the Vortex
technical education center on Saturday, July 31 from 10 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
The Best and Brightest program, a joint project with Microsoft and Sylvan
Prometric, provides an opportunity for the selected students to earn a
Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) certification, the initial step
toward becoming a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), a coveted
designation in the computer engineering field. The four-week program
included two weeks of intensive Microsoft classes on Networking Essentials,
Administering Windows NT 4.0, and Supporting Windows NT 4.0; exam
preparation; and two exams. The scholarship is valued at $4,000 per student.
"This day will provide the students with the opportunity to
understand where this certification can take them in their careers,"
remarked Catherine Bristol, Director of Education for Vortex Data Systems.
During the graduation day festivities, students will have the opportunity
to hear about career opportunities and the value of their new Microsoft
Certified Professional (MCP) certification from current Microsoft certified
professionals from Microsoft and Vortex. At this time they will also receive
their course and program certificates indicating that they have successfully
completed the program.
During the program, students learned how to handle many types of computer
networking issues including:
- Identifying the media used in network communications
- Understanding the primary functions of a network operating system
- Installing and configuring NT networking operating systems and clients
and Internet servers
- Adding users to an NT domain
- Backing up and restoring files on a network
"The MCP certification prepares these students for internships they
may wish to apply for during their summer break," commented Paul
Christiansen, President and CEO of Vortex. "Many of the students have
taken their education to an even higher level by passing exams outside of
this program and are more than half way to earning an MCSE (Microsoft
Certified Systems Engineer) certification."
