Microsoft Certified Professional Developer - MCPD
If you are developing .NET Framework 2.0 applications that use Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, the new Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) and Microsoft Certified Professional Developer (MCPD) credentials provide a simpler and more targeted framework to showcase your technical skills in addition to the skills that are required for specific developer job roles.
The Microsoft Certified Professional Developer (MCPD) credential highlights your job role, featuring your specific area of expertise. Now you can easily distinguish yourself as an expert in Windows development, Web application development, or enterprise applications development. There are three MCPD certification paths:

| Professional Developer: Web Developer

MCPD: Web Developer candidates must first complete the requirements for the MCTS: .NET Framework 2.0 Web Applications certification (two exams). After earning this certification, candidates may earn their MCPD: Web Developer by passing one additional required exam.
If you are a Microsoft Certified Application Developer (MCAD), you can upgrade to the MCPD: Web Developer certification by taking one upgrade exam, Exam 70–551: UPGRADE: MCAD Skills to MCPD: Web Developer by Using the Microsoft .NET Framework. By passing this upgrade exam, you will automatically obtain the relevant MCTS prerequisite, MCTS: .NET Framework 2.0 Web Applications.
If you have already passed Exam 70–552: UPGRADE: MCAD Skills to MCPD: Windows Developer by Using the Microsoft .NET Framework, you may obtain the MCPD: Web Developer certification by passing the following additional exams:
- 70–528: TS: Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 - Web-Based Client Development
- 70–547: PRO: Designing and Developing Web Applications by Using the Microsoft .NET Framework
If you are a Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer (MCSD) on Microsoft .NET and have passed Exam 70–553: UPGRADE: MCSD Microsoft .NET Skills to MCPD: Enterprise Application Developer by Using the Microsoft .NET Framework: Part 1, you may obtain the MCPD: Web Developer certification by passing the following additional exam:
- 70–547: PRO: Designing and Developing Web Applications by Using the Microsoft .NET Framework

| Professional Developer: Enterprise Applications Developer
|

The Microsoft Certified Professional Developer: Enterprise Applications Developer (MCPD: Enterprise Applications Developer) certification demonstrates that you have the comprehensive skills that are required to build n-tier solutions that target both Web and rich-client user experiences.
If you are a Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer (MCSD) on Microsoft .NET, you can upgrade to the MCPD: Enterprise Applications Developer certification by taking two upgrade exams. By passing these upgrade exams you will also automatically obtain all three of the MCTS prerequisites. If you are a Microsoft Certified Application Developer (MCAD) there is no direct upgrade path to the MCPD: Enterprise Applications Developer certification. But you can apply the MCAD upgrade exams to MCPD: Windows Developer and MCPD: Web Developer to your exam path.
If you have already passed Exam 70–551: UPGRADE: MCAD Skills to MCPD: Web Developer by Using the Microsoft .NET Framework, you may obtain the MCPD: Enterprise Applications Developer certification by passing the following additional exams:
- 70–526: TS: Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 - Windows-Based Client Development
- 70–529: TS: Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 - Distributed Application Development
- 70–549: PRO: Designing and Developing Enterprise Applications by Using the Microsoft .NET Framework
